Multi-genre phenomenon Jelly Roll dominated the fan-voted 2023 CMT Music Awards in Austin, Texas, taking home three awards as a first-time ever nominee for his #1 hit, “Son Of A Sinner,” which is certified platinum, including Male Video of the Year, Breakthrough Male Video of the Year and CMT Digital-First Performance of the Year. The singer/songwriter also performed on stage his current single, “Need A Favor,” which marked his first-ever, television performance, skyrocketing the song to No. 1 on the iTunes All Genre chart.

To start the night, Jelly received his first award as a surprise on the red carpet for CMT Digital-First performance of the Year in front of a crowd of fans. Watch the surprise and his acceptance of his first ever industry award on the carpet here.

Jelly Roll was then brought to tears by the overwhelming amount of love and support he received from the Country music community. “This is for the underdogs, this is for the losers and the have-nots. God takes the impossible and makes it look small,” Jelly shared during his Breakthrough Male Video of the Year acceptance speech which he received by fellow country music singer and friend, Parker McCullom.

Later in the evening, Jelly Roll was joined by a full gospel choir of students and alumni of Huston-Tillotson University, for a captivating and impassioned performance of his hit song “Need A Favor,” which was followed by an energetic standing ovation by the whole house. iHeartCountry called the performance “powerful,” while Associated Press says the star “got the crowd to raise their hands to the roof.”

Ending the forever memorable night, Jelly Roll was awarded winner of Male Video of the Year, which was presented by legendary singer LeAnn Rimes. “I want to thank country radio for accepting me knowing who I was and letting me do it my way the whole way to the stage tonight,” Jelly shared. “It may have looked like it was only 30 years, but it took me 39 years to walk from over there (pointing to his seat) to right here (the stage).”

These awards come before Jelly Roll’s highly-anticipated new album, WHITSITT CHAPEL arrives on June 2nd. Titled after the church the Antioch-native grew up attending, the debut full-length Country project on BMG/Stoney Creek Records features 13 tracks. Pre-Order/Pre-Save/Pre-Add WHITSITT CHAPEL here.

Jelly Roll won the following awards:

  •    CMT DIGITAL-FIRST PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR – “Son of A Sinner” (from CMT All Access)
  • BREAKTHROUGH MALE VIDEO OF THE YEAR – “Son Of A Sinner”
  • MALE VIDEO OF THE YEAR – Jelly Roll – “Son Of A Sinner”

This past year has been history-making for Jelly Roll, including selling out his hometown venue – Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena – for more than 16,000 fans, making his Grand Ole Opry debut, scoring his first Country radio No. 1 and a two-week Rock No. 1, and topping Billboard’s Emerging Artist chart for an astounding 25 straight weeks. Jelly’s run marked the longest reign ever to date, for any artist, on the chart.

Additionally, the Antioch native was named to CRS New Faces at the 2023 Country Radio Seminar, and announced his upcoming 44 date Backroad Baptism Tour, which will kick off this July. Having “cemented his rising mainstream stardom” (Tennessean), Jelly Roll continues to break records, independently building his fan base and amassing more than 4 Billion collective career streams to date. Jelly Roll became the first act this decade to top the Rock charts while simultaneously having a Top 30 song on Country radio with his #1 hit, “Son Of A Sinner,” and he is the first artist in Billboard history to do so with debut singles.
